Dr. Guðrún Sif Friðriksdóttir is currently a senior researcher at the Nordic Africa Institute in Uppsala, Sweden where she is researching forced displacement of Burundians, using both the lens of socio-economic status and gender. In her PhD studies, she examined the reintegration of ex-combatants in Burundi, looking in particular at the role of ideas of masculinity. Before commencing her PhD studies Guðrún Sif worked for five years on women, peace and security issues and ending violence against women with UN Women in Liberia, South Sudan and Laos. Her work included focusing on gender- sensitive Security Sector Reform, the implementation of 1325, women-led peace-building projects, women’s participation in post-conflict governance processes, and the prevention and response to gender based violence in conflict and peace.
