Ambassador Sofie From-Emmesberger is a career diplomat at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. She took up her current position as Director General for Africa and Middle East in October 2021 after having served as the permanent Chair of EU’s Political and Security Committee, PSC, from 2018 to 2021. Prior to that she held the position as Ambassador of Finland to PSC (2015-2018) and has served as Ambassador of Finland to Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Eritrea and the Seychelles as well as Permanent Representative to the UN in Nairobi (2011-2015). She has also worked at the Finnish missions in Tel Aviv and Strasbourg as well as in the fields of civilian crisis management and human rights. She holds a Master’s degree in law from the University of Helsinki and conducted post-graduate studies at the Institute for European Law, University of Saarland, Germany.
