Tove Ivergård

Tove Ivergård has a background in Peace and Conflict studies at Uppsala University and has worked in the field of Women, Peace and Security since 2009. Ivergård is the regional coordinator of WILPF’s 19 sections and groups in the African region and has extensive knowledge of women’s rights activists’ peace work in the region. She works closely with WILPF’s international secretariat in ensuring voices from the sections inform and shape the international movement. She has successfully initiated and organized African regional conferences for, and in collaboration with, women rights activists on a yearly basis (since 2014), in order to facilitate space for experience exchange and strategies across boarders regarding Women, Peace and Security and conflict prevention.

Ivergård is part of the Swedish Foreign Ministry’s working group for the National Action Plan on women, peace and security. She has supported her colleagues, in conflict and post conflict countries, in their work to advocate for the adoption and implementation of inclusive NAP’s, as well as other peace and conflict preventive initiatives, such as women mediation networks and women situation rooms, to prevent violence during elections. As head of international cooperation at WILPF Sweden, Ivergård has strived to increase women in civil society’s participation at all stages of peace processes as well as putting their voices at the center of Swedish international policy, advocating for preventing violent conflict instead of reacting to it.
